When things are going well for your business, disaster is the last thing you want to think about. However, if you don’t have a proper disaster recovery plan in place, your successful business could be at risk. When you think about quality IT support and management, be sure that data recovery and backup are part of your plan.

    When Disaster Strikes

Unfortunately, when it comes to disaster recovery, many small- to mid-sized business do not have proper plans in place. And, while a catastrophe may not be pleasant to think about, the aftermath of poor planning is even worse.

In today’s climate, disasters include tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, blizzards and other natural disasters as well as IT setbacks such as server room failures or hacker attack. Essentially, anything that causes downtime and loss to your business falls into the “disaster” category for planning purposes.

    Be Prepared

While the thought of a tornado strike might seem unlikely, loss of data is a very real threat to your company. Quality IT services are the best way to protect your business in the event of a setback, enabling you to recover quickly. In fact, lack of preparedness results in up to 25 percent of small- to medium-sized businesses not reopening at all, according to the according to The Institute for Business and Home Safety.

Another reason quality IT support is so important to disaster planning and recovery? Because many data breaches occur from within the organization. Negligence, carelessness, lack of awareness and training can all lead to cracks in your security and yield disastrous results. Protecting your network is critical, but so is backing it up so that you can bounce back from a breach.

    Start Planning

As you are thinking about disaster preparedness, be sure to factor these questions into your IT planning and support: 1. Do we have everything backed up properly? 2. How can we access our backups when needed? 3. Who is responsible for backups and security? Starting with these three questions will help demystify the planning process and get you on the path to safe, secure networks and systems.
